Opera Talks: English for Professional Musicians is a 10-week ESP course for music college students and young professional musicians who want to feel more confident using English in real musical contexts.
The course is designed for students with B1-level English and includes 40 academic hours. It focuses on the situations musicians actually face: introducing themselves at a masterclass or audition, talking about their voice and repertoire, discussing artistic choices, working with conductors and accompanists, asking questions in rehearsals, giving and receiving feedback, writing professional emails, and preparing an opera CV.
During the course, students will work with vocabulary connected with vocal technique, repertoire, rehearsals, music history, performance, and professional communication. Many assignments are built around pair and group interaction, because professional musicians rarely communicate in isolation: they negotiate, clarify, respond, explain, agree, disagree, and make decisions together.
Students do not need to speak perfectly, but they should be ready to express their ideas, ask for help when needed, and take part in simple professional discussions.
The course will take around 2–3 hours per week, including independent work.
